Curiouser and Curiouser

Well smack my ass and call me Sally!  It's been a hell of a long time since I last posted here.  Not gonna lie, life has been hectic!  Also, I accidentally gave away an entire bag of my nerd shirts to Goodwill the week of my most recent move.  Needless to say, I've had to replenish.

Today I found myself with a rare day off with no plans. Before heading to the beach and getting a sunburn I managed to go for a little hike at Wekiwa State Park whilst enjoying a pretty amazing Alice in Wonderland shirt that I managed to procure from TeeFury a short while back.

For some inexplicable reason, back in high school, I became obsessed with the Disney movie. In college that obsession turned to the dark side as I played the horror PC game "American McGee's Alice" for countless hours. Since then I've seen the cartoon many, many more times, read the books, adored Tim Burton's version for Disney and even planning as dressing as Alice for a race at Disney this upcoming January.  But for today, I rocked this shirt while I tried something new.

iFrustration

I have a love/hate relationship with Apple products. Actually, it's more like I have a love for the products since I'm an iPod junkie and have had every incarnation of the iPhone with the exception of the 5s since I'm saving myself for the 6.  What I seem to have hate for is iOs 7. I can't seem to keep a charge to save my life and even invested in two...YES TWO...external battery cases.

Oh well!  What can ya do?  I know what I can do and that is bitch about it constantly while happily wearing the iPad T that a former resident and Apple store Manager gave to me before I left FL for the mid-Atlantic.  I mean it's not the shirt's fault that I want to throw my phone out of the car window when I'm cruising down 270. Really it's not.

When Irish Eyes Are Smiling...

I'm not of Irish descent, but I enjoy a fine ale.  Since today is a "drinking holiday" I have chosen to celebrate with a nice golden rye. Since I'm also a grown-ass woman of 41 with a job and responsibilities I'm staying in tonight to enjoy the aforementioned ales while donning a shirt purchased special for the occasion.

I'm afraid my Japanese is a little rusty.

When I was a little girl my favorite day of the week was Sunday.  It was the day that my elementary school bestie and I would hang out in the basement, in our PJs, eat Cookie Crisp and watch Godzilla movies.  Good times.  Good times.

I'm not gonna die in a hospital where the nurses aren't even hot.

This blog is to filed under "sometimes I'm so stupid that I miss the obvious".  Why do I say that?  I bought today's shorts because I thought it was a fun Bullwinkle/Supernatural mash-up.  Sure!  That's what it is, but I missed the obvious  reference to one of Crowley's snarky nicknames for Sam Winchester until right before I started to write this blog. Wow!  What a silly goose I am.

I thought they smelled bad on the *outside*.

While yesterday was the day I "leveled up" I refuse to become a stuffy old lady. Fuck that noise!  I've completed my first 40 years of existence, learned a lot of shit and made the conscious decision to make he next 40 the best ever.   (Since I don't intend to cash in my chips at 80, I'll reflect on these next years at THAT point and give you an update then. Sound good?)

So in an effort to remain young at heart, I purchased myself a few gifts and nerdy they are indeed!  This evening, after a maddening day, this hot mess decided to don one of her latest and greatest TeeFury Ts.  Iran how can one NOT dig a cartoon embowlment of a Tauntaun?  Am I right?!?!?

Not Sweet Cheeks? Freckles? New Girl?

A while back I mentioned that I dabbled in watching Doctor Who.  The Ninth Doctor was my first Doctor and, in my humble opinion, the best Doctor.

Since I'm sure that particular statement will cause controversy, I'll throw another little bit of info your way which will really cause a call to storm my home with pitchforks and torches. Are ya ready?  Thanks to a certain spinoff I was ruined forever and could never make a return to Doctor Who because THAT was too much of a family show.  Apparently, I like my BBC SciFi shows to be SCANDLOUS!  I want rough talk, adult situations, questionable morality and hot Captain Jack on Captain Jack sex.  Torchwood is the show for me!

I can thank two of my favorite people for involving me with this show. One of which I lounged around on perpendicular sofas for days while we powered through the first couple of series.  The other raced me to the end and congratulated me for finishing by gifting me the shirt I wear this evening.  The show, this shirt & these people mean a lot to me.

Oh!  While I do hold a special place in my heart for the show I will say that the abomination that was the mini series "Miracle Day" doesn't count.   As a matter of fact I'd like the wipe what I did see of it from my mind. It was a pathetic excuse of an attempt to bring it back. If you haven't seen it save yourself and just stop after "Children of Earth".  That, my friends, was brilliant!  Please do yourself a favor and give it a go.

*That's me in the bottom right whilst podcasting tonight with some more great friends!  (Two are missing-silly iPad!)
*Pre-recording meditation?

So Glory Is Ben? Ben Is Glory?!?!?

LI may have mentioned this before, but I have had the pleasure of podcasting about the shows "Buffy" & "Angel" along side some of the most amazing people I know for something like 18 years now. Hardy har har har!

Tomorrow night we record the season 2 finale of "Angel".  Tonight, after the longest day of work ever capping off the longest week in recent memory, I am hunkering down with a frosty adult beverages while I take my notes, chill with my canine BFF & wear my latest TeeFury acquisition.

I Love You. I Know.

In my 40 years of life I've experienced love & loss as well as passion & indifference.  Also, I've also consumed a lot of media which touches on these topics.   Amongst the myriad of films and movies that I've seen over the years, I maintain that the hottest kiss of all time takes place on the ice planet of Hoth between my favorite movie heroine & scoundrel of all time.  Don't agree?  I don't care. ;)

Oh!  It's Valentine's Day so I'm enjoying a love-themed brew.

Winter Is Coming...

Ummmmm...winter is here!

In the summer of 2012 I was lucky enough to have been able to attend SDCC.  As some of you may know, when it comes to the processes regarding getting passes and a hotel room in addition to finding a decent price for flights luck really is the appropriate word to use.   If it wasn't for a slew of dear friends, I would have either been in San Diego sans to of over my head or I would have been stuck in Jacksonville, FL that weekend attending Bittercon on my Skype machine.

What importance does the above hold?  Well, today I received an unexpected gift from a friend who I had known thanks to social media and also had the pleasure of meeting in the real world whilst in San Diego.  (Fun Fact: in my head I just did a kick ass Ron Burgundy imitation there.)
He's an awesome guy with a beautiful family who was kind enough to let his friends borrow him for a few days of panels, post-con meals, convention floor walking and sight seeing.

So skip ahead to this very day, nearly 2 years later, where I get to be the lucky one to receive an awesome new Game of Thrones T.  It's nice and roomy and super soft. Thanks so much, Texas Jeff, and as always....Team Joffrey FOREVER!!!

Self Indulgence Up The Ying Yang!

A self-indulgent blog can use a self-indulgent T to highlight. Today's T simple highlights my awesomeness and if I was a super hero I'd be CAPTAIN AWESOME!

Boy I sure am humble!  Aren't I?

That's All, Benny!

I was born and raised in New York's capital region.  Not gonna lie, one of the best ways to pass the time on a miserable winter night is to spend time with friends at a local watering hole shooting some pool, shooting the breeze and knocking back some shots.

The Elbo Room is one of the divey-est of dives and where some great times were had.

We Live In A Spaceship, Dear.

How does one celebrate no longer having the plague?  By working 6 days straight and clocking in a crapton of OT. That's what!

So today, after running all over hell's half acre to get much needed errand running taken care of, I stripped off the makeup, put on my comfiest sweatpants and chose to wear a shirt that I haven't worn in an eternity.

Since I'm burnt out I can think if no real connection to myself or my life with this one today other than I am a fan of retro art and the show Firefly. Sorry! I'll try harder next time.

The Streets of Harajuku Are Your Catwalk

A few years back I saw a T with a little cartoon girl who looks just like me when I wear my glasses.  Soooooooo how could I not buy it? I mean really!

OMG!!! HE TOUCHED MY HAND!!!

Not gonna lie...I mean why should I?  This is my blog all about me, me, me so why be anyone else?  Yeah...so...I've had a crush on a certain celebrity since the first time I saw him laugh at his own jokes on SNL.  I thought he was tall, funny and slightly awkward PLUS he attended university in my home town which was a bit of a turn on. I had been to the same haunts as this man.  Albeit in a different time. Le sigh.

So, long story short I was lucky enough to have one of the BEST DAYS EVER with my sister from another mr., brother from another mother & future tattoo artist in good ol' NYC a few years back.  We checked out the Tim Burton exhibit at MoMA, mocked NYU art students, had my bladder control called into question, got sauced at a pub close to 30 Rock, saw Tina Fey and the crew of 30 Rock filming a scene right before our eyes, watched Questlove buy a sandwich and sat in the audience of Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

Fun Fact: "Encino Man" is a boring tool bag.

Throwback Thursday!

Guess who started wearing nerd shirts at the ripe old age of 2 1/2?  ME!!!!!!

Welcome to the Exciting World of 3D Chess!

I feel like good health and good juju are returning and it feels amazing!  Eventhough I'm not 100% it seems like forever since I've felt this damn good. I'm trying to hang back and relax as much as possible, but I cannot help to celebrate. Even just a little. So on this dreary Tuesday night I am kicking back with an ice cold lager, wearing one of my favorite and cozier long-sleeved Ts while watching some episodes of my favorite nerdy comedies ever...Big Bang Theory.

I will admit that the rules to Rock, Paper, Scissors, Lizard, Spock still confound me a little, the concept makes me giggle. Just like the show.  I've said it before and I'll say it again, some of the conversations and situations on the show strike a chord with me.  I'm constantly reminded of friends and good times.  I've also been reminded of the times I let things go a little as I spent days (& nights) playing Sims 3, believe that a warm beverage is comforting & have had the Star Wars vs Star Trek debate (or the even more heated new trilogy vs. original Star Wars trilogy discussion).  But besides making me laugh and having a few comfy Ts based on the show, my most favorite thing about BBT is that it's a common thread within my family and with many of my friends.  We can talk and laugh and quote and joke about it.  It's nice to be able to bond over something as little as a 30 minute sitcom.

I Made The Yankees Hat More Famous Than A Yankee Can

Sooooooooooooooooo it's officially day 23 of feeling like complete garbage and how did I celebrate this day?  Well by going into work and doing more than I could for much longer than I should.  Of course.  Because that is how I freakin' roll!

Anyhooooooo, I'm now at mi casa about to kick back with a relaxing beverage and wearing the first things that I grabbed out of my closet...a Yankees T!  It's not baseball season yet and this shocks me. I mean doesn't the season last like 11 months or something. DAMN!  It goes on forever!  Anyway, I don't believe you guys have seen this one before so here it is.  A shirt that I bought in an airport on my way back from an Albany trip I do believe.  Oh crap!  Or was it Long Island?  I don't remember other than it was an airport on my way back to BWI sometime last year. I've been sick, people!  Please cut me some slack.   ;)

Happy FRIGGIN' New Year!

Besides a fabulous new orange Keurig coffee maker I managed to get a heaping helping of the flu for Christmas.

As for my New Year...well...let's just say that it was spent in an ER of an animal hospital in DC. So, yeah, this year has not been the greatest so far.

Tonight I'd like to slay some ghouls, but instead I'm once again in the probe position, snuggling with an ailing Chihuahua and wearing a favorite new T.
